Necessary Eats: Creepy, crawly peanut butter spider bites!

I was not impressed.

So Sandy happened and we were one of the lucky ones. Ryan, Rossi and I are extremely grateful that we didn’t get anything more than a few branches in our backyard. Hope everyone else is doing ok!

Today is also Halloween! While I may not be doing anything crazy tonight, I wanted to share this fantastic recipe with you since I had a chance to test it out at a party last week and it was a big hit.

The recipe was originally from Sandra Lee with a few tweaks here and there. Give it a try, it’s super easy and tastes amazing.

Creepy, Crawly Peanut Butter Spider Bites

DIRECTIONS

Place parchment paper on baking sheet; set aside.

In a large glass microwave-safe bowl combine half of the chocolate chips and all of peanut butter and Heath toffee bits. Microwave on high for 2 minutes – be sure to stop and stir the mixture every 30 seconds to prevent burning the chocolate.  Remove and stir until smooth.

Break 3 cups of the pretzel sticks into three small pieces. Break the other three cups of pretzels into two pieces, you’ll use these pieces for the spider “legs”.

Stir in small pretzel sticks.

In another bowl, melt the remaining chocolate morsels in the microwave on high and stirring every 30 seconds.

Using a wooden spoon and a small stainless steel spatula, scoop a small amount of the mixture and drop on to the parchment paper lined baking sheet. Use the spatula to help with the dropping the chocolate (this keeps your fingers clean!)

Once the spider bodies are created, dip the spider legs into the melted chocolate and attach to the bodies.

Place in freezer for 5 minutes or until to chocolate is hardened (you can also use the orange cookie icing to add some eyes and designs). Remove and serve.
